 ARCH

Most pictures on this website are taken during the construction of 'ARCH' in Berlin 1999. 'ARCH' is complex. It's massive and a logistical nightmare to build. Although having constructed the project now twice, has made us far more efficient. Still we need a large crew and about 17 to 20 days to get this monster up.

DOME

This year we were invited by SZENE festival in Salzburg, Austria, to build a construction we have
named: 'DOME'
Unfortunately the festival has run into financial problems (apparently due to political changes in Austria)
We have been working on the project for some time now and are all excited about the design. So it's
disappointing to have the project canceled at such an advanced stage. It also has thrown our work
prospects during coming European summer in disarray.
Anyway, we do hope to build Dome somewhere next year.

The planned construction is a dome (you might have guessed that). The structure will be about 30 meters high.
Since we are still tinkering with the final design, it could well turn out to be taller.

PIER

We have drawn up plans and started modeling a project called: 'PIER'.
PIER is site specific installation initially designed for a festival in Zurich, Switzerland.
But it heavily relied on us building DOME and this project also has come unstuck.
The idea is to build a massive counterlevered construction, resembling a pier. It should jut out over the water
for about 30 meters.
CLOCKTOWERS
As you might have read elsewhere on this website, we have constructed some large structures on and around the
Melbourne Townhall.
Part of this project is used the clocktower as a support. We are now kicking around the idea
of developing a generic structure which could be built on any clocktower anywhere.

BRIDGE

yep, another one. As you should have gathered by now; we love bridges. Well, we have
another one on the boil.
We are toying with a project to build a single span 40 meter wide bridge. From our initial
sketches and discussions it seems likely that we will be using a pair of hyperbolic arches.
Our goal is to be able to build this bridge with a relatively small crew in less than a week.

ART FOR ART'S SAKE

So, Europe is looking sketchy for this year and here in Australia the festival season is well and truly over. Welcome to the times of research and experiment. We might just build a few things for our own pleasure. Away from budgets and time schedules. No press releases and camera crews. Just a few friends, somewhere in the wild Australian landscape. A fire, a few beers and a truck full with materials. Just building, for no apparent reason. Just because we can. Is this Art? We don't know. We don't really care. To quote Simon's own words here: "It's all just like a big holiday to me."
