Le Dit du Bambou, Souk de la Parole was a performance space that combined both real space, created by the intertwining bamboos, and an imagined space, created by the whispers, words and songs which resonate and give rise to play, dreams, thoughts and sharing.
It was a collaboration between Bambuco and Compagnie Caracol based on the concept of a performance market, or souk, evolving out of 2005’s Souk. The structure had multiple areas — a large main space, five smaller areas and eight towers which anchored the structure. The areas were draped with cloth to provide protection from the sun and to vary sight lines. The structure sat at around 1200m in area on the ground and was around 10m high.
Le Dit du Bambou, Souk de la Parole travelled to five towns in France (Angers, Orleans, Rennes, Chalon and Aubagne) and to Utrecht in Holland. The performances varied from city to city, but generally included slam poetry, plays, storytelling, music and acrobatics.
